COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR  – Newport News

Community Outreach Coordinator

POSITION TYPE:

LOCATION:
Newport News Office, working in Hampton Roads

DESCRIPTION:

Community Outreach Coordinator- VA BLOC is looking for a community outreach coordinator for our movement work in Hampton Roads.  This is a unique opportunity to work to create sustainable change and political power in historically underserved neighborhoods.  This position is full-time, salaried, with benefits.  Ideal candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented self-starters that love interacting with community members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, train, and empower volunteers to make positive change within the community.  
  • Plan and execute activities including, but not limited to, volunteer recruitment events, phonebanks, door-to-door canvassing, voter registration, training workshops, and community events.  
  • Work independently and with fellow team members.
  • Build and maintain authentic relationships within the community. 
  • Plan and host events and actions to provide opportunities for supporters and members to make change.
  • Organize and manage volunteer activity.
  • Educate about civic issues and systems, including key issue areas of economic opportunity, health care access, education, and voting rights.
  • Empower people of color to participate in state and local issue initiatives. 
  • Utilize technology for efficient systems management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to connect with diverse audiences
  • Clear and effective written and spoken communication
  • High attention to detail
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to meet goals and strict deadlines
  • Social Media Savvy 
  • Comfort with Google Suite
  • Ability to work well in collaborative environment
  • Desire to do movement work within the community
  • Previous leadership experience

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
