COMMUNITY CANVASSER  – Newport News & Hampton

Virginia Black Leadership Organizing Collaborative (VA BLOC), a Hampton Roads grassroots organization, builds empowered communities through voter engagement, civic involvement, and leadership development.  We seek compassionate and skilled individuals with a deep commitment to building sustainable political power in our community.  There are opportunities to work for 501(c)3 non-partisan voter engagement and 501(c)4 activities to directly support Harris/Walz. DESCRIPTION:

Community Canvasser – VA BLOC is seeking community canvassers for the 2024 Election Season. This is a unique opportunity to help increase voter turnout in our community by engaging directly with potential voters. These positions are full-time or part-time and run through November 6, 2024. Ideal candidates will be highly organized, detail-oriented self-starters that love interacting with community members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicating – Engage with potential voters to promote voter education information and persuade community members to take action for the election. 
  • Delivering Information – Distribute voting literature, flyers, and brochures about the 2024 General Election either with general information or in support of particular candidates.  
  • Conducting research – Gather data by asking targeted questions to potential voters and community members.
  • Visiting neighborhoods – Walk through local neighborhoods to have conversations with potential voters about the upcoming election.
  • Working at events – Host informational tables at community events and local businesses to provide voter information to community members.
  • Facilitating Workshops – Offer workshops to help groups get their members registered and ready to vote in the election either with general information or in support of particular candidates.
  • Phonebanking –  Call local community members to persuade them to vote during the election season using general voter information or in support of particular candidates.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to connect with diverse audiences
  • Clear and effective written and spoken communication
  • High attention to detail
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Ability to meet goals and strict deadlines
  • Comfort with technology
  • Integrity and Honesty

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Starting at $15/hour with stipends for gas and the possibility of bonuses.

VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY CANVASSER – Newport News/Hampton

Virginia Black Leadership Organizing Collaborative (VA BLOC), a Hampton Roads grassroots organization, builds empowered communities through integrated voter engagement, civic involvement, and leadership development.  We seek conscious and skilled individuals with a deep commitment to building sustainable Black political power to join our Action Squad of volunteers.

DESCRIPTION:

We have both partisan and non-partisan opportunities for our volunteers to help talk with potential voters to help them get registered and ready to vote. If you are interested in joining our efforts to increase voter turnout in Newport News and Hampton, please click here.
